He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

 Psalm 91:1-2
He offers the shelter… We have to choose to go there. Like a woman ravaged by a life on the streets - homeless and wandering, hungry and thirsty, abandoned and abused - who hears of a homeless shelter. She has to choose. “But do I want to admit that I need help,” she might ask herself. Or she might say, “They will not welcome me, I am to dirty, and too demolished… they would never welcome me.” Or she might believe that they will only accept her for a time, and will wind up back on the streets in the same place as before. She also might think that they are unkind, or or or or or. Ultimately the choice is hers.We too, have a choice to make. We can entertain every other possible lie saying that we should dwell any other place but with God, but how silly would it be for a homeless person to not go to a homeless shelter? And not just any homeless shelter, for when we dwell with God, he protects us from the elements of this world, while allowing us to grow and transform our lives. We who were once far off and outcasted, are now brought in, and given new clothes, and a new name. We are dressed in white and gold, we are strengthened, we are transformed.Am I willing to dwell in the shelter of the Most High? It is scary. What I deem comfortable will no longer be. But praise the Lord that he offers us that rest. He offers us that new comfort. The homeless woman will have to set her standards higher… which means a greater fall, but a much greater reward. And, in the case of God, there is no fall, we can only rise.
